Two thousand, one hundred six sera from 66 randomly selected farms in provincies of Kilkis and Halkidiki were examined. In 20% of sera and in 82% of farms antibody titres were positive for chlamydia by CFT. This high rate of farms positivity did not coincide with a history of abortions in the last lambing season. Only 29% showed such a history record. In Kilkis higher rates of positivity in animals or farms were observed than in Halkidiki. Regarding the animal species, more sheep than goats were shown a seropositive reaction. In 1,6% of sera and in 21% of farms antibody titres were positive for brucella by RBPT and CFT. A greater dependence was observed between seropositivity and history of abortion, in comparison to the results of chlamydia. In Kilkis higher rates of positivity in animals or farms were observed than in Halkidiki. Regarding the animal species, sheep or goats were shown a similar seropositive reaction. Seropositivity of chlamydiosis was higher than of brucellosis in the examined animals or farms. Key words: sheep, goat, chlamydiosis, brucellosis, seropositivity, abortions Volume 52 (No.5 p. 410-421 ) / 2001 |
