Dermatophytosis caused by Trichophyton verrucosum was studied in 15 farms during the period 1981-1990. The number of the clinically infected animals in each farm ranged between 5 and 30%. Clinical signs and localisation of lesions were typical of bovine dermatophytosis. Clinical diagnosis was confirmed by direct microscopic examination of hair and scabs and by culture of a representative sample from each farm. T. verrucosum var album and T. verrucosum var ochraceum were isolated but never from the same farm. Characteristics of the isolates in various culture media and incubation temperatures are reported. Special attention is drawn to the public health significance due to the fact that in most farms human infections were also present Volume 47 (No. 2 p. 111-116) / 1996
